Wildlife Alliance

Causes and factors of death, injury and disease in wildlife (2023-2026)

The project is part of the “Wildlife Alliance” initiative and is supported by WWF Hellas. It aims to investigate the causes and factors contributing to the injury, disease and death of wild animals based on the data collected by ANIMA since 2005. This investigation has a key role in the development of targeted and effective conservation measures in Greece.

Wildlife Alliance is the collective effort of 11 environmental NGOs to maximise the impact of their actions, with a common vision for the well-being of wildlife and people.

Wildlife care and rehabilitation (2025-2026)

The project aims to protect and conserve biodiversity, with a primary focus on the care, treatment, and rehabilitation of wild animals. As part of this effort, care is provided to approximately 4,000 wild animals from across the country. Of these, 2,500 are adult or young injured or sick animals, 500 are victims of illegal trafficking and trade, while 1,000 are orphans (chicks and newborns).

ANIMA also ensures their smooth reintroduction into the wild by accommodating the animals in specially designed rehabilitation facilities at the Diomedes Botanical Garden and in Kalivia. The goal is for them to be able to survive independently and successfully in their natural environment once they have recovered.

In addition, the project includes maintenance and upgrade work on the infrastructure of ANIMA’s Wildlife Care Center in Kalivia, such as:

  • repair of damaged sheds
  • replacement of worn cage components (mesh, latches, etc.)
  • construction of new watering stations
  • installation of additional cages for accommodation

Wildlife care and rehabilitation
