ANIMA is staffed by a specialized veterinarian and a team of scientists – biologists, ecologists, and other experts – with many years of experience in wildlife care.
Its unique access to primary data, thanks to the large number of wildlife incidents it handles each year, allows the organization to produce reliable statistics and conduct pioneering research, with a significant international presence and recognition.
This autumn, ANIMA’s veterinarian, Grigoris Markakis, represented the Association at the 16th Panhellenic Veterinary Conference, held in Thessaloniki (31/10-2/11/25) by the Hellenic Veterinary Medical Society, presenting four scientific announcements:
- First Report and a Novel Successful Therapeutic Approach of Haemosporidian Infections in Wild Raptors in Greece
- A Novel Therapeutic Approach for the Treatment of Lungworm Infections in Northern White-breasted Hedgehogs (Erinaceus roumanicus)
- Seroprevalence and Geographic Distribution of Selected Infectious and Parasitic Diseases in Wild Carnivores in Greece
- First Detection of Sarcocystis halieti DNA in the Blood of Wild Birds in Greece and Lithuania
A few days later, he participated in the International Conference on Natural Sciences & Biotechnology, held in Sofia (6-7/11/25), where his announcement won first prize.
Last October, Mr. Markakis was also honored with the «Best Researcher Award» in the field of Veterinary Medicine by the International Cognitive Scientist Awards, in recognition of his many years of significant research activity at ANIMA.
Scientific research is a fundamental pillar of our work at ANIMA. Through the study, recording, and care of wildlife, we contribute significantly to the understanding, protection, and conservation of species, offering knowledge with international resonance and impact.
